Originally designed by DBJ Laboratories in 1984 as a custom high-end guitar preamp, the Power Plant was updated and released to the market in 1990 by Applied Research and Technology, Inc. of Rochester New York. The unit remained on the market until 1997. During that time the “Plant” received glowing reviews from virtually every music publication and industry notables. The design has been copied by many manufactures but never equaled. With a few added features the power Plant will be re-released and configured as a studio DI rack, a fifty watt stereo guitar amp head and as a hybrid combo with a fifty watt tube power amp output stage.

The Power Plant to this day is still a very viable music production tool, and in this era of amp modeling and digital plug-ins the Power Plant fills a huge void. First and foremost it’s the “real deal.” It’s analog not digital. The 2011 re-issue is a three-channel design (clean, crunch and overdrive) with separate input gain and output level matching controls for each channel. Couple that with our dual channel application specific clean, crunch and overdrive parametric equalization circuitry which allow the guitarist to easily dial in a multitude of clean and overdriven tones suitable for a variety of playing styles. Other features include silent channel switching, various outputs specifically designed to drive guitar amps, a power amp output, an auxiliary output and a direct-to-console output (1/4” inch and XLR) with our unique ACM (amp, cabinet and microphone) simulation circuitry. And yes, it has knobs - no deep menu diving.

From a tone stand point, the Power Plant has more harmonic content, tighter low frequency response, more definition in the mid and high frequencies, more control and sustain and way less noise than most so-called hand-wired multi-thousand dollar boutique guitar amplifiers and is equally at home on stage or in the studio…

In short, the Power Plant delivers true vintage British valve amplifier tone and feel at an affordable price. The Power Plant will be back in production and available by late summer, 2011 so keep checking back for updates and informational You Tube video links.
